Beijing Dongyue Temple

Located on the north side of Chaoyangmenwai Street, Beijing Dongyue Temple used to be the largest Taoism Temple in Northern of China. It was officially registered and opened to public as a religious place in 2008, there are a large number of Taoism architectures of different features and variety of inscriptions of ancient dynasties of China are preserved in Beijing Dongyue Temple. These treasures protected in Beijing Dongyue Temple are of great reference value for researching the origin and development of Chinese ancient Taoism.

Beijing Dongyue Temple was first built in Yuan Dynasty up to present it already has more than 600 years. The appearance of Beijing Dongyue Temple is grand and magnificent, it occupies an area of about 6 hectares holding more than 600 houses. Dongyue Temple is already enjoy a fame as “the Beijing Small Stele Forest”, originally there are more than 140 Steles stand in the temple however after several war only about 30 Steles are preserved.

The architectures of Beijing Dongyue Temple were mainly built in Qing Dynasty, according to its setting it was divided in to the main courtyard, eastern courtyard and western courtyard. The Daizong Temple is the main building that people worship God of Mt Tai and Empress. Beijing Dongyue Temple is also well known for its numerous statues in Beijing tours, it is said there are more than 3000 life live statues are located in Beijing Dongyue Temple. Beijing Dongyue Temple is well known Beijing Folk Art Museum where tourists could learn about the culture, history of Old Beijing.
